Ricky Richardson RIP
It is very sad news that we have to advise all of the death of Ricky Richardson who was Hon Secretary of Ryton RFC from 1967 to 1982 at the time when the club Presidents were Tom Charlton, Bill Wannop, Louis Greensitt, Leo Kelly and Ken Earl. Ricky was an integral part of the clubs growth during the 1960's and 1970's when our fields and clubhouse were in the beautiful Holburn Dene, with a 2nd pitch on the Willows next to the Tyne. He was part of the management committee who were instrumental in moving the club into a purpose built clubhouse with 4 fields at Barmoor.
With his infectious enthusiam, Ricky also organised the club Summer Galas which raised funds to enable the club to move to Barmoor and the club tours to the Isle of Man (1978) and the Centenary Tour to Portugal (1981). Without people like Ricky we would not have the fantastic memories that we all still collectively talk about and share and the cultural and spiritual home that we all enjoy.
Rickys funeral is at the Holy Cross Church at Ryton on Tuesday 21st December 2021 from 10:30 am then afterwards at the Rugby Club where we hope all can raise a glass or two to celebrate the passing of a true Ryton Rugby Club Man.
Please note due to the pandemic, the church can only seat 70 people and the following link is to help all see the service virtually if they wish to do so. This will also allow us to watch the service at the Rugby Club which will be open from 10 am and the service will be streamed to the club TV.
