Dear Everyone - a message on behalf of Mark Heron
I hope you, your family and everyone associated to the club are well during this strange time. As you’ll be aware, owing to the current situation we have unfortunately had to cancel all of our School Sports Partnership events. However, over the last few weeks we have been planning and organising a series of virtual events that we would like to share with the young people of Gateshead. The first event is linked to our annual Dance Festival, this is one of our ‘flagship’ events which provides thousands of young people the opportunity to express themselves on the famous stage of Sage Gateshead. It’s our mission to try and recreate some of that magic for our young people.
The programme we have developed is called #DANCEUNITE! We have worked with a number of our partners to design and develop a virtual mass dance activity which will be shared across all of our social media platforms @GatesheadSPP. In simple terms the project will consist of a range of dance tutorials for people to learn over the course of w/c 11th May with the ask that they perform the full routine on the afternoon of Friday 15th May.
Of course, whilst we will be placing a strong emphasis on physical activity, we see #DANCEUNITE as an opportunity to support people in many other ways. Specifically, we’ve embedded the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ into the campaign and will be incorporating messaging around the following:
- Connect – “Connect with your Friends and Family”
- Be Active – “Move More”
- Learn – “Master the Moves”
- Give – “Support your Friends and Family”
- Take Notice – “Live In the Moment”
We're asking everyone to get involved; staff, pupils, parents, friends, EVERYONE! We know how passionate you are about sport, wellbeing and ensuring young people are physically active so please accept this as an invitation to everyone associated with Ryton RFC to get involved! Particularly, we’re hoping you’ll be able to engage with and support the #DANCEUNITE campaign in the following ways:
- Through your own social media channels by sharing all of our ‘@Gateshead’ post, tweets, media etc. posts, tweets etc.
- By sharing details across your own networks/contacts (Promo document attached).
- By encouraging your own team and their friends/families to get involved – as the name suggests we see this very much an opportunity to ‘unite’ the local community with a special focus on our school community which you and your team are very much a part of!
We hope that by engaging in the project in the ways outlined, our young people and schools will have access to yet more positive role models, especially recognising that for a lot of children, you represent both familiar and inspirational figures.
Hopefully you’ll be able to get involved and support us with #DANCEUNITE in some way. I’ve attached a generic promo document to this email for your reference and for you to share with your contacts as you see fit. This week will focus on promotion of the campaign with the dance tutorials set to start w/c 11th May. If you need any more information then please get in touch.
Thanks,
Mark Heron
